Keeping Wombourne Litter-Free!

Please Pick Up Your Litter!
🚮 South Staffs Council, in partnership with Wolverhampton Council and Staffordshire Police, is launching the #throwitthursday campaign to raise awareness about the impact of littering. 🌍
The Parish Council have recently installed new picnic benches in Wombourne village, a space we want to keep fresh and inviting all year-round. 🌳🍽️ Please help us keep it clean by picking up any litter in the area. 🙌
While most people claim they don’t litter, it’s clear that some do and it impacts other people, wildlife and the environment. 🦆🐾 Even small things like cigarette butts thrown from car windows or dropped down drains count as litter. 🚬❌ You could face a £500 Fixed Penalty Notice or even a criminal record for littering. ⚖️
Common excuses like “there wasn’t a bin” or even “it gives litter pickers something to do” don’t change the fact that if you create rubbish, it’s your responsibility to dispose of it properly. 🗑️👍
Interesting Facts:
🍔 Littering often happens when people think no one’s watching or when they’re trying to hide behaviors like eating junk food or smoking. 🚬
📲 If you see someone littering and can identify them, South Staffs Council will take action. Report it here: https://southstaffs.portal.uk.empro.verintcloudservices.com/site/southstaffs/request/littering
💸 Money collected from Fixed Penalty Notices and court costs is reinvested in efforts to combat environmental crime.
🐀 Litter not only looks unsightly, but attracts vermin.
🚗 It can cause traffic disruptions when people have to litter pick on busy roads.
👏 There are lots of incredible local volunteers helping to keep areas clean. Taking pride in your surroundings makes a real difference. There is even a Litter Lotto app where you can win prizes for your efforts! 🎉🎁
Thank you for keeping Wombourne clean and tidy! 🤩
