We’re Hiring – Deputy Clerk to Wombourne Parish Council

Wombourne Parish Council are seeking a committed and detail-driven Deputy Clerk to play a vital role in the smooth and effective running of the Council and its services. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong administrative and financial skills to contribute to the heart of local governance, supporting a growing and vibrant community.
As Deputy Clerk, you’ll take the lead on financial management, ensure regulatory compliance and deputise for the Clerk when required. You’ll also help facilitate strategic projects, support local events and attend two evening meetings per month (Monday evenings).

About the Role
As Deputy Clerk, you will work closely with the Clerk to ensure good governance, financial accountability and responsive community engagement. This is a key role in a forward-thinking Parish Council committed to high standards and continuous improvement.
- Location: Wombourne Parish Council Office, Civic Centre, Gravel Hill, Wombourne
- Contract: Permanent (subject to 6-month probation)
- Hours: 25 hours per week
- Monday: 9:30am – 2:30pm
- Tuesday to Friday: 11:00am – 4:00pm
- Plus two Monday evening meetings per month and occasional additional hours for events
- Salary: LC2 SCP 18–32 (£30,599 – £41,511 FTE)
- Actual salary: £20,676 – £28,047 depending on experience and qualifications
- Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme
- Annual Leave: 22 days (rising to 26 after 5 years), plus bank holidays (pro-rata)
- Working Environment: Office-based at the Civic Centre, with a friendly dog in attendance
What You’ll Be Doing
- Managing the Council’s financial systems, payroll and VAT returns
- Supporting internal and external audits
- Preparing agendas and minutes and attending Council meetings
- Ensuring compliance with legislation and Council policies
- Assisting with community projects, events and communications
- Deputising for the Clerk when required
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone with:
- Proven experience in financial administration (preferably in local government)
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Confidence with IT and financial software (e.g. SAGE, AdvantEdge)
- A commitment to achieving the CiLCA qualification within 24 months (fully funded and supported)
