Todd Miller and the Joe Loss Orchestra

The Birch Thompson Memorial Fund is holding their Annual Charity Dance this year at Wombourne Civic Centre on Friday 15th November to raise funds for Gelliwig. Please come and join them to celebrate their 44th year with Todd Miller and the Joe Loss Orchestra. 🥳

The Birch Thompson Memorial Fund was set up in memory of Graham Birch and John Thompson, long-serving teachers in Wolverhampton, who worked at Colton Hills School. Both sadly passed away from heart attacks in 1980.

The charity honours two teachers, who took young people on school journeys and their spirit lives on. Gelliwig is a residential centre that can sleep up to 30 people. It is situated on the edge of the glorious Snowdonia National Park, just a stone’s throw from the centre of the picturesque town of Porthmadog and the wide open nearby beach at Blackrock Sands.

Poolhouse Play Area Refurbishment

National Lottery Community Fund

We’re thrilled to announce that we have successfully secured £56,600 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to go towards the refurbishment of Poolhouse Play Area.
This much-needed upgrade will bring new play equipment designed for younger children, ensuring that
the play area caters to a wider age range than it currently does.
In addition, the refurbishment will include safety fencing around the main play area, offering parents
peace of mind while their children enjoy the new facilities.
The new equipment and improvements are expected to have a lasting, positive impact on our community. The redesigned space will provide access to a safe, modern and engaging play environment that promotes both mental and physical wellbeing. Through outdoor play and social interaction, children will benefit from enhanced emotional development and improved physical health and fitness.
We are grateful to the RC Midlands Region for National Lottery Funding for making this project possible. The project is set to begin in the near future and we look forward to sharing updates throughout the life of the project.
We believe this investment in Poolhouse Play Area will be a fantastic addition to our village, bringing joy and healthy activity to our younger residents for years to come.

Visit from Police, Fire & Crime Comissioner

Ben Adams is coming to our meeting

Don’t forget, Ben Adams, our newly appointed Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, will be attending our Full Council meeting on Monday 28th October. It starts at 7pm in the Council Chamber building, which is on the Civic Centre car-park. There will be the usual 15 minutes of public participation, after Ben has his own slot to answer your questions and discuss any issues raised. Free Sphero Robotics Session

Sphero Robotics at Wombourne Library! 🤖

Join the RAF Museum Midlands for FREE Sphero Robotics at Wombourne Library on Wednesday 30th October. Learn to drive a Sphero robot and try to conquer the Sphero maze! During October half term, South Staffordshire Council’s leisure centres are providing a range of activities for children and young people. Activities on offer include:

• Discounted student and apprentice memberships
• Training courses for 14+ years

Car-Park Closed for Model Railway Exhibition

Model Railway Exhibition

Please be aware that there will be no access to the Civic Centre car park next Saturday 19th October, unless you are attending the all-day Model Railway Exhibition.
 
It runs from 10am till 4pm, though parking is usually quieter in the afternoon should you wish to attend. There will be over 20 lay-outs with a few hands-on ones for the children. You can look forward to lots of demonstrations and a huge choice of new and second-hand equipment. Ideal to get you started, if you’re on a budget. 🚂
 
Adults are £6 and children 14 and under have free entry when accompanied by an adult. Cash and card payments will be taken on the door. Light refreshments and disabled facilities will be on-site.

The Parish Council reserve the right to close the Civic Centre car-park and grant permission for certain hirers to be the only users. This is only for one day and we thank you for your understanding.

Scarecrows are coming to Wombourne on Sunday!

TOMORROW’S SCARECROW HUNT! 🍂

Kingsway Church have organised a Scarecrow Hunt around Wombourne on Sunday 13th October from 12pm till 2pm. Cakes will be sold at Kingsway to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support!⁣ All children must be accompanied by an adult. There will be a scarecrow outside the Civic Centre too, so make sure you pay him a visit! 😁

Kingsway Church also have their Harvest Service at 10:30am tomorrow, so it’s the perfect time to drop by before the hunt begins! ⁣ Please remember to bring items for our food-bank, such as tinned vegetables (carrots, tomatoes, peas, sweetcorn, potatoes, green beans, etc), microwaveable packet dishes (savoury rice and pasta) and ⁣tinned soups. These are the items they regularly run short of.

Get your Prince Charmings and Princesses ready because Cinderella is coming to Wombourne! There will be two shows of this year’s Panto at the Civic Centre on Saturday 7th December (3.30pm and 6.15pm). Please call 01902 896300 to book your tickets before they’re all gone! We’ll well over half-way already! 🎫 It’s £10 per child and £12 for anyone 17 years and over. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Payments can be made via card or bank transfer and doors open 15 minutes before the start time, so you can order drinks from the bar and find your seats, which are on a first come, first served basis. Get telling your friends and family! We look forward to seeing you all there! 😃
